The second six-party talk is likely to take place in late May, as Upper House speaker Khin Aung Myint, is paying goodwill visits to Belarus and Poland starting on May 20, according to sources.
Khin Aung Myint, who is included in the six-way talks, will return to Myanmar on May 28.
The first six-party talk included President Thein Sein, Speaker of the Union parliament Thura Shwe Mann, Speaker of the Upper House of parliament Khin Aung Myint, commander-in-chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, chairperson of National League of Democracy Aung San Suu Kyi and ethnic minority representative Dr Aye Maung. The talk took place at the presidential residence in Nay Pyi Taw on April 10.
Aung San Suu Kyi recently told media: "I don't see high commitment to the talk. [I] do want to continue the talks."
Dr Aye Maung said: "There is a small chance we will hold the six-party talk. From my standpoint, the government side shows no interest in holding it. To tell the truth, it should have taken place this week and last week. In recent days, the president and the UEC chairman held talks with political parties. I heard that the meeting focused on general matters such as the proposal to create a federal Union. The president has said the parliament is mainly responsible for charter change, and it should be in accordance with the provisions of the constitution. Everybody can say we will hold 48-way talks or 14-way talks. The charter will be amended. We will march toward a genuine Union."
An agreement was reached at the first six-party talk to continue discussing charter change, as well as matters relating to the peace process, holding a free and fair election and peace and stability in the post-election period.
