The Religious Affairs Department under the Ministry of Religious Affairs has refused to give London Sayadaw compensation of US$5 million for the illegal detention which violated his basic rights.
He was held in custody between June 10-12, 2014.
The monk said that the department's officials said he could not sue them under Section 80 of the Penal Code and they didn't have to give him any compensation.
Section 80 states that nothing is an offence if done by accident or misfortune, without any criminal intention or knowledge and carried out with proper care and caution, said lawyer Aye Ko.
The monk is seeking help from the Myanmar Human Rights Commission.
