Global New Light of Myanmar reported that the federation saw increasing demand from China, Africa and Europe. Exporters are sending roughly 4,000 tonnes a day by road to China following a surge in demand from the neighbouring country.

The country exported 1.4 million tonnes in the 2012-13 fiscal year, 1.2 million tonnes in the 2013-14 fiscal year and 1.8 million tonnes in the 2014-15 fiscal year.

Formerly the world's top rice exporter, Myanmar aims to become the world's top three rice exporters in the next few years.
